Club Members' Survey - Our Response

Members’ comments covered the following broad areas. In response:


  • New, well qualified coaches appointed and training offered to volunteer support coaches
  • Regular goalkeeper training sessions organized
  • All coaching sessions reviewed and improvements implemented. Sustained good attendance needed

Recruitment and Retention

  • Membership fees and structure streamlined to incentivise existing and new members
  • Social Hockey run over the summer and Back to Hockey continues to thrive
  • A focus on alumni (particularly uni students) seeks to increase new/returning players
  • Warm and prompt welcome to all contacts/applicants to the club to convert contact to members

Club Promotion and Fundraising

  • Seeking to consolidate the fledgling fundraising committee
  • Advertising for a communications officer who can help promote the club
  • Investment in a full-time office manager to provide support in this area
  • Another successful Fun in the Forest raised funds and did much to promote the club


  • More comprehensive use of the website for availability/selection  has helped improve the selection process
  • New pool squad system being tried on the men’s side to facilitate earlier selection
  • Earlier requests for availability and improved communication across the ladies’ teams have meant all teams are sorted out earlier in the week


  • Our website has more information and is more up to date than ever before. We will continue to encourage members to use it as a club ‘hub’ for fixtures, results, match reports, squad and membership information, latest news and much more
  • Actively looking for a volunteer to help with press and other internal and external communications


  • Social committee relaunched but we encourage all members to get involved
  • The pre-season Social Hockey sessions organized by willing volunteers were a great success
  • Our Back to Hockey sessions continue to be a friendly welcome to the club


  • Our Club Development Plan will confirm the commitment to all aspects and sections of the club

Colts/Junior/Mini Hockey

  • All mini sessions are supported by qualified coaches, who include in their number a Performance Centre Coach and former EH tutor and coaching mentor
  • All colts’ coaching is undertaken by qualified coaches
  • Junior helpers are mentored and well supported
  • Head minis’ coach John Wright is available most Saturday mornings to listen to any ideas on how to improve the ‘minis experience’
  • Mixed hockey now offered to U10s
  • A commitment to develop all youngsters to their full potential

Clubhouse and Catering

  • Members continue to enjoy some of the best facilities in London
  • Standard of coffee improved
  • Several good bottled ales now available at the bar
  • Menus are reviewed regularly and rotate every 4 weeks
  • A better kitchen ventilation system is being investigated currently


  • A level 1 umpiring course to be held at Old Loughts imminently
  • Plans afoot to develop a smoother path for players moving up through the bottom half of the men’s section.

It is important that the club continues to attract additional support and sponsorship. We welcome all levels of support (including another major sponsor alongside the Higgins Group) and potential bespoke packages are available to interested parties. Support and sponsorship can range from pitchside boards (on either of our pitches) to individual team deals. We welcome local sponsors in particular as well as national and international sponsors especially those with an interest in hockey.
