Current Advice on Coronavirus (Covid-19)

Posted by Jane Blake on 4 March 2020

For the health of all our members and visitors, Old Loughtonians Hockey Club asks all members, parents and guardians to follow Government advice, which can be found at this link

If you, or your children, (as members or visitors to OLHC) have been diagnosed with coronavirus, or have been in close contact with someone who has the virus, please also contact Jo Davey, our Office Manager, on 0208 504 4010 ( between 12th and 31st March phone Sam on 07779 075135)

For the moment, England Hockey advice is that club hockey will continue as normal, but please continue to observe the recommended advice about everyday habits. It may be that, due to your professional responsibilities or to personal circumstances, it is wise for you to take a more proactive approach to 'social distancing'. The indications are that the risk of transmission from outdoor sport is extremely low, so you may wish to play but limit socialising after the game.

If your personal reasons are such that you feel it appropriate not to play at all, please do let your captains know as soon as possible.

England Hockey are also encouraging players to tap sticks rather than shake hands after the game. Along with a warm smile and thanks to officials, this would seem like a sensible variation.

Everyday Habits

The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, everyday habits can help prevent the spread of several viruses. These include the following:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the bin.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

It was formed as the parent company of the Higgins Group of Companies in 1989. The Higgins Group moved to their prestigious new offices at One, Langston Road in May 2005. The development and success of the club would not have been possible without the long term and continuing commitment of the company to our club as its principal sponsor.
