Ladies 1

In an enthralling clash at Luxborough Lane, two of the league’s early pacesetters could not be separated in an end to end game that surprisingly finished goalless.  Full report

Ladies 2

The proverbial bus scenario: none come along for ages and then 3 (or in this case 7) come all at once!

Men’s 1

A really uplifing and committed win. A lot of really solid performances across the pitch.  We needed this to settle us down. The rest of the league now needs to look out!

Men’s 7

The second half was almost a repeat of the first, with Southend taking the lead from a short corner and the Woodsmen pulling level with Mark Barry also scoring his first of the season (in his first game).

Ladies Selection Guidance

It's important when selecting squads that Captains, Coaches and Managers are transparent regarding how this is achieved. Some of you have a detailed understanding whilst others are new to Ladies Hockey and unclear on how selection takes place. Representatives from all 4 Ladies sides have met and discussed at length, what they think about when choosing teams. Below is a list of important considerations in the weekly selection process. No one point is more important than another, individuals are looked at holistically and all points are considered:

  • Performance at matches
  • Performance at training
  • Training attendance
  • Contribution to the team
  • Availability for a team
  • Availability for a variety of teams
  • Flexibility on positions
  • Punctuality of reply to availability request
  • Punctuality to meet times
  • Commitment to the club
  • Longevity and history of commitment

Captains, Coaches and Managers are often asked why a certain player isn't in a higher team. It's at this point that people need to reflect on the above points and consider has the individual worked to promote themselves through these criteria? Most of us are happy in our teams and have built friendships over the years which make any change a challenge. Captains, Coaches and Managers will make every effort to ease movement between teams and reduce the stress this can cause. On a personal level, if you aspire to a higher team, you need to think about the above points to give yourself the best chance of moving up.

If you have any concerns about selection, please approach your Captain, Coach or Manager as I am sure they will be happy to explain their reasoning. If you feel uncomfortable and would like to speak with someone outside of the team, please let me know. Players need to deliver certain expectations and in return Captains, Coaches and Managers will treat everyone respectfully and with fairness. If you have any questions regarding the selection guidance, please contact me. We are now 3 weeks into the season and squads are settling down. Whichever team you play for, you are valued and appreciated. Let’s make this a great season for Loughts Ladies.
