05.01.10 - COLTS AND MINIS PLAY INDOORS

Not to be left out in the cold the younger members of the club competed in the Indoorhockey.co.uk competition at Brentwood over the weekend:

The U13 Girls entered the Brentwood Indoor tournament on Saturday, facing a further five teams for the championship and were victorious. The girls convincingly won four of their games and the fifth being the toughest, in a close 3-2 win against Havering, who finally finished in silver medal place. The striking force of Emily Holmes and Lucy Price scored most of the goals with Megan Brooks also adding to the tally. Imogen Padwick and Lucia Corry secured the solid defence with Monica Johal, Lizzy Wroblewski and Chloe Joarder all playing substantial parts in the success of the day. Hannah Leiper played tremendously well in goal leaving Old Loughts conceding only three goals in the entire competition and with six of the nine players being U12s the girls will no doubt also have a good foundation for future indoor events. The U13 Boys was also champions in their age group.

The U16 Boys came third in their competition by virtue of their goals for being less than Havant’s who finished on the same number of points. A sluggish start against Canterbury resulted in a loss (3-1) but the lads rallied to secure a draw against Winchester (3-3) and good wins against Chelmsford (3-1) and Havant (4-3). With Havant also being in the national play off finals this was a good bench mark for the U16s.

The U18 boys secured the overall winners place in their competition by drawing against Ipswich School (1-1) and with convincing wins against Old Southendians (12-0), Canterbury (5-1) and Chelmsford (5-1). Although Ipswich School had the same number of points the U18s scored far more goals and hence took the competition.
