13.01.10 - U13 BOYS WIN INDOOR COMPETITION

The U13 boys were defending the title that they won last year knowing that the competition would be tough. The first match was against local Alliance League rivals Phoenix and although it took the side a bit of time to get going they ran out comfortable 5-0 winners. The second match against Canterbury was going to be crucial as they had comfortably won their first two games. The boys eased into a 2-0 lead playing controlled indoor hockey but Canterbury pulled a goal back from a short corner to make it 2-1. The next part of the game was tense with time running out and Canterbury pushing for the equaliser, however the defence and goal keeper held firm and a great move down the right hand side involving Rory and Conor resulted in the third goal for Loughts and a final score of 3-1. The lads then had an easy 8-0 win against Old Southendians. The next big game was against Havant who had also won all of their games. By this time the side was playing well as a unit and despite Havant having two or three good players, the boys continuous pressure resulted in a solid 4-1 victory. This meant that a victory in the last game against local rivals Chelmsford would win them the tournament. Chelmsford did not make it easy and half way through the game the score was still 0-0, however Loughts then stepped up a gear and cruised to a 5-0 win. This gave the side a playing record on played 5,won 5, goals for 26, goals against 3.

All of the squad performed well, defending and attacking as a unit. They also showed good temperament when things were not going well. This was backed up by Caleb Williams making some very important saves on his goalkeeping debut for the club.

Squad : Caleb Williams (GK), Rory Patterson (Capt), Chris Halls, Conor Caplan, Jamie Colton, Sai Johal, Dylan Sandhu, TJ Ashaye.

Goal scorers: Conor 9, Rory 5, Jamie 5, Chris 4, Dylan 2, TJ 1.
