26.01.10 - LADIES MOVE INTO 4TH PLACE IN NATIONAL INDOOR LEAGUE:

Following on from last weekend's success the Ladies 1s returned to Croydon for the final weekend of the EHL Women's Indoor Division 1 League. With only two games left and just 3 points separating 2nd and 7th place the girls had everything to play for. The first of the final two matches saw the girls take on ex league rivals Barnes Hounslow and Ealing. The girls got off to a less than impressive start though soon found a way through a well disciplined Barnes defence and returned to firing form. An electric second half saw end to end hockey with some mouth-watering play from both sides. Although Loughts could only muster a 4-4 draw, it was hard fought and well deserved. In the final match of the competition, Old Loughtonians faced a somewhat depleted Aldridge side. The girls got off to a fantastic start with Becky Halle and Elisa Filamonico slipping two goals past the keeper within the first five minutes. Following a short corner injury, Aldridge soon found themselves down to four players with no substitutes on the bench. The girls took full advantage and ten minutes and two goals later, went into half time 4-0 ahead. Early in the second half Loughts found themselves a player down for a 'back stick' challenge though managed to maintain composure against a four women Aldridge side. Aldridge however soon found themselves down to three, when a badly timed tackle saw their captain sin binned for 2 minutes. With five against three, the ladies continued to dominate the second half and a flurry of attacks saw three more goals slip past the Aldridge keeper. Old Loughtonians 7, Aldridge 0. Although the girls were disappointed not to qualify for promotion again this season they finished in a very respectful and well earned 4th place.
