10.03.10 - LADIES DRAW AT HOME:
On Sunday morning the Ladies 1st XI took on struggling local team St Albans. The starting whistle saw St Albans working hard to press the home sides defence and they were rewarded with an early short corner. A well worked unit defended the short corner and Loughts picked the pace up. Ten minutes later the Ladies were awarded a short corner after some great attacking play from left back Lucy Thayer. The umpires missed the opportunity to give a penalty flick when the St Albans defence kicked the ball from the goal and Loughts were unable to convert a second short corner. The rest of the half saw both teams struggling to maintain possession of the ball long enough to create successful chances on goal. The Ladies were determined to come out fighting in the second half and raise their game. St Albans who were trying to escape relegation also came out hard and the second half saw both teams creating great chances on goal. It was the home team that broke the stalemate when Lucy Robinson put the ball away after some well worked play down the right hand side by Elisa Filarmonico and Rebecca Halle. St Albans fought back and put on the pressure but some outstanding defending from Maddie Row and goalkeeper Emerald Green kept the home team in the driving seat. With five minutes to go some sloppy play from the centre midfield saw a cheap turnover of the ball allowing St Albans to seize the opportunity to equalise. A last minute short corner and a final chance to win the game was not converted by the Ladies leaving the score 1-1 They remain mid table with three games to play and are playing away at Harleston Magpies this weekend.
