30.03.10 - DYING SECONDS GOAL IS BITTER DISAPPOINTMENT TO MENS 1STS:

On Sunday the men played their final game of the season away against Oxted. If they could win and Canterbury dropped points against Holcombe then they would win the league and secure a spot in the Premier League play offs. Starting very brightly they should have scored several before Oliver Didham popped up to score their first. Several more opportunities went begging before Darren Cheesman deflected in a second. Oxted then carved an opening and won a penalty corner which they converted to make the half time score 2-1.

After the break Old Loughts peppered the Oxted goal creating several golden opportunities to add to their lead, however despite total domination of the second half they could not increase their lead. Old Loughts went to the corner to run the clock down, but allowed Oxted to break away in the last minute when they won and converted a penalty corner to make the score 2-2. This score meant that they could not win the league and their misery was compounded when they were given the news that Canterbury had lost to Holcombe meaning that had they hung on for the last 45 seconds they would have won - a devastating finish to a season that was 45 second away from being perfect!
