30.03.10 - LADIES HOLD TOP OF LEAGUE IPSWICH TO DRAW:
This weekend the Ladies 1’s played host to top of the league side, Ipswich, in the final game of the season. With Ipswich looking for a win to automatically take them into play offs, and with Loughts hoping to finish the season on a high, there was everything to play for. The game started at a high intensity from both sides, though it was the home side who opened the score line within the first five minutes through Jenny Farrow, thanks to some fantastic build up play from Becky Halle and Katie Richards. However, it didn’t take long for Ipswich to respond and they evened the score line sixteen minutes later.
The second half saw both teams display brilliant skills at each end of the pitch. Although Loughts were put under pressure at the back early into the second half they maintained their composure and rode the storm. There was also some magical play from Georgina Zumeris and Lucy Robinson who were both playing in their final match for the club. Despite both sides having multiple chances to pinch the lead, it wasn’t until late into the second half that the Ladies were rewarded for their hard work and effort. With three minutes left to play, captain, Miranda Weeks (who was also playing in her final match for the club), found the back of the net, thanks to some rather lacklustre marking from the Ipswich defence. Ipswich however, soon proved why they were top of the league and equalised a minute later. Despite the game finishing 2-2, the girls put in a valiant effort and should be proud of their performance.
