30.03.10 - BOTH U12 GIRLS AND BOYS SIDES ARE ESSEX U12 COUNTY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS:

Last Sunday the U11 girls entered the Essex Club Championships at Redbridge Sports Centre. Prior to the start Megan Wells fell during the warm-up which left all concerned if she could continue but thankfully she bravely ran off the injury and was able to play. They started with a 3-0 win over Colchester which continued with a 1-0 win over Chelmsford. They then secured a further 7-0 and two further 6-0 wins against Old Southendians, Blue Hornets and Havering. To ensure they won the competition they secured their final win with a 5-0 victory against Upminster. Some great hockey was played throughout the day and remarkably all of the on field players contributed to the goal tally with Lucy Price leading the score sheet with 11 goals and Megan Brooks following on behind with 7 goals. Megan Wells and Emma Albery (the team’s youngest player) played excellent hockey in midfield with some great distribution. Alisha Evans and Ella Day held their positions around the field and gave little time to the opposition on the ball. Monica Johal and Chloe Joarder held a very tight defence and distributed the ball around from either side to tire the opposition and keep goalkeeper Hannah Leiper from having a busy day. Hannah was there however when required to keep any shots at bay. With 28 goals scored and none conceded the girls now qualify for the East of England Finals on 18th April in Norfolk. We wish them the very best of luck.

A strong Old Loughts squad won the U12s Boys Essex County Clubs Tournament on Sunday at Redbridge Sports Centre. Fielding six players giving away a year the boys still managed to achieve: Played 7, Won 6, Drew 1 scoring 35 goals without conceding any. Positional discipline and great teamwork ensured that the boys controlled their games and never really allowed the opposition to threaten the Old Loughts goal. The squad now proceed to the East Region Tournament on April 17th. The squad was: - James Thompson GK, Edward Padfield, Will Hopkins, Tyrion Prole, Shivesh Moorthy, Gurvir Julta, Edgar Padfield, Jo Hobday, Dafydd Prole. Results were:
