13.04.10 - ALLLIANCE MINI LEAGUE REPORTS:

Alliance league wins for U13 girls - On Sunday the girls played their two final league games at Newport. With the U13 girls tied up in other competitions, a younger squad U12s was fielded. The Saffron Walden game started with good open play goals from Ella Day, Chloe Joarder and Monica Johal, with a great strike from Monica from a short corner to secure her second. The toughest game against Bishops Stortford started as a close affair with them beating Saffron Walden far more convincingly. With end to end hockey, Hannah Leiper made some great saves in goal and Chloe and Monica held the defence firm whilst supporting the attack as they held the game well. It was Megan Brooks who after dribbling around a defender finally scored the first goal for Loughts. Megan added an identical second goal shortly afterwards and after a flow of short corners against them it was Hannah Sydenham who added a third goal with seconds to spare, making it a comfortable 3-0 win at the end. Congratulations to all the players for their great efforts on the day, with thanks to Lily Fox and Sophie Padhiar for their great efforts, and Odette Clarke who represented the U12 squad for the first time.

The U13 boys drew 4-4 in their official match and won their friendly match 7-4. TJ played very well and linked with the younger ones very smoothly. Ali worked hard on the left hand side and created opportunities. The maturity of the younger players was very evident, and the linking play was effortless at times!

Alliance league wins for under 11 Boys - The U11 boys continued their unbeaten league season winning 9-0 against Saffron Walden. The boys played with a certain swagger and stoic virtue above their age as they took apart a good SW team by playing unselfish and attacking hockey keeping possession with penetrating attacks in waves of control and patience. Edward Padfield and Will Hopkins (captain) linked very well to attack down the right to Ciaran who stormed in on goal at any opportunity taking their games to a new level. Dafydd Prole and Jo Hobday were decisive in attack, Max Sydenham (U10) and Omer Cayir (U10) linked very well down the left and played very well in this unfamiliar position. Edward Jerram (GK) dismissed the only real attack on goal with no nonsense. Hat tricks were scored by Dafydd, Ciaran and Max. Final results - Old Loughtonians U11B 9 – Saffron Walden 0; Old Loughtonians U11B 4 – Saffron Walden (U12 B) team 0

On Sunday, the U11 girls travelled to Saffron Walden to play in the Alliance Mini League and produced some very good hockey to beat Bishops Stortford 1 - 0; Emma Albery scoring the goal with a cracking shot from the top of the circle. Unfortunately, however, the girls then got beaten by a strong Saffron Walden side 2 - 0 although this was a very creditable performance given that they were missing several of their regular players. The younger players who stepped in, however, all played very well, in particular Kiera Holmes. Team: Isabella Clark, Annie Redmond, Kiera Holmes, Alexis Shore, Emma Albery, Olivia Corry & Caitlin Clifford
