20.04.10 - TWO OUT OF THREE BOYS COLTS TEAMS PROGRESS TO MERCIAN FINALS:

In a full day of hockey at the club last Sunday the U14s kicked off with their quarter final match against Oxford Hawks in a confident mood having secured the England Hockey East Regional U14 Championship the previous weekend. Some first class hockey was produced by the lads and with two goals Conor Caplan and two from James Albery the team were 4-1 up at half time. This was followed by a similar pattern in the second half and with three goals from Rory Patterson, one from Liam Appleyard and a further goal from Conor Caplan secured the tie at 9-1 to Old Loughts. On May 3rd the lads will be in a semi final draw with Southgate, Wycombe and Canterbury.

The U18s followed this match with their quarter final Mercian tie against Canterbury. The lads bounced back from the National Finals weekend and with two excellent goals from Matt Lewis both from short corners the team secured a 2-0 lead at half time. Possession was mainly with Old Loughts and some good chances were created but a scare occurred when Canterbury did manage to pull one goal back 10 minutes from the end. However, on this occasion the lads were determined to move forward and a further goal was forthcoming making the final score 3-1 to the home side. They now progress to the Finals Day to be held at Reading Hockey Club on May 3rd where their semi final opponents will be Teddington.

The final match was the U16s regional semi final match against East Grinstead and an early strike from a short corner by Albert Forsey suggested that the pattern of the previous two games would be continued. However East Grinstead had different thoughts on the matter and this well drilled side not only drew level but went into a 2-1 lead just before half time. The second half saw the lads rally rather than let their heads drop and they secured possession for much of the 35 minutes. However East Grinstead were not to be outdone on this occasion and despite Old Loughts creating the opportunities EG eventually came out winners 4-2.
