27.04.10 - MINIS GO TO CANTERBURY:
On Sunday the club took five teams to Canterbury to take part in a Mini Hockey Festival. The standard is always very good with clubs such as Teddington, Sevenoaks and Bromley & Beckenham taking part. Playing the new EH age groups the minis managed to bring home three of the five trophys and winning their first ever Club U8s title. With so many players finding themselves unavailable this was a great club achievement to field five teams despite having no reserves and is a fantastic reflection of the standard at depth that the minis have. This bodes very well for when the minis progress into the 11 aside game when much larger squads are required.
U10 Boys - Played 7, won 6, drew 1, goals scored 26, goals conceded 2. Won 2 – 0 v Bromley & Beckenham; drew 0 – 0 v Sevenoaks; won 2 – 1 v Tunbridge Wells; won 7 – 0 v Maidstone; won 6 – 0 v Herne Bay; won 2 – 1 v Canterbury A; won 7 – 0 vs Canterbury B. The team was; Jake Botha (GK), Anshuman, Max, Omer, Jake David, Zayne and Archie. Their key match was against Canterbury A as they were marginally ahead of the lads at the outset and we scored two good goals by creating lots of pressure. The boys were at bit keyed up for the game because they knew it was the pivotal game but we actually won it well. The standout points were: Zayne top scoring with 10 goals – he looked really comfortable in front of goal; all the team looking comfortable in possession; defence- Ansh and Omer at the back with Max were immense but the whole team defended well; positional discipline; team spirit and the number of goals they scored by attacking down the right, crossing and sweeping the ball in. Anshuman was also awarded the fair play award for U10 boys.
The U12 boys fielded its U11 boys and one U10 and had no reserves yet despite this they managed to compete with every team just losing by the odd goal in some of their 8 games. Canterbury National Champions only managed a 3-2 win with the boys coming back strongly from a 3-0 early deficit. Without doubt a full team would have challenged for the title however the day provided a great opportunity to give new players experience and play up another out of age group. Given that the same side will play again next year they can look forward to the challenge with some optimism. Team: Edward Jerram, Edward Padfield, Edgar Padfield, Charles Grenfell, Joe Hobday, Ciaran Caplan, Gurvir Jutla.
U10 Girls - Unluckily Isabella the U10 GK fractured her finger on Saturday night and was not able to play but after a bit of juggling both U12 and U10 girls had a full compliment of players. The U10 girls drew 3 of their 8 matches and were very unlucky not to win any. They had a solid defence from Caitlin C, Kate and Caitlin H in goal and only conceded 7 goals in 8 matches. Olivia was very strong in midfield Kiera and Katherine worked hard on the wings and along with Sophie was unlucky not to score.
The U12 girls had a tough start drawing 2-2 with Canterbury A (eventual winners) and losing 1-0 to Teddington, but they then got into their stride winning 4 games and drawing another 2 to finish fourth. It was a good display with two U11s in the team and no subs for 8 matches. Team: Imogen Padwick (Capt), Emily Jerram (GK), Hannah Sydenham, Alexis Shore, Alisha Evans, Eden Price and Natalie Thomson. Many thanks to parents Danny Padwick and Sally Wroblewski who stepped in to organise the girls on the day and a special thanks to Lizzie Wroblewski who managed her younger sister’s U10s team.
U8s – The U8s were winners of their division – the first time Loughts have won at this age group and the first time the shield has left Kent! Congratulations to Catherine and AJ for picking up merit awards for their great efforts and in defence no goals against speaks volumes so well done to Billy, Patrick and Millie - great stuff! Luke was great in the midfield and looked really solid and playing really consistently. The goalscorers up front were 6 for AJ, 5 for Katherine and Bash with 7, Mark 1. Well done to all....
