11.05.10 - U14 AND U18 BOYS ARE SUCCESSFUL AT MERCIAN PLAY OFF FINALS:
The U14 boys were drawn against Southgate, one of their old adversaries, in the semi final of the Mercian Play offs which were held at Reading HC on Monday 3rd May. Although Southgate proved far sterner opposition than they have done in previous competitions the play was always in the Southgate half and 4-0 score line to the boys reflected the one way traffic. The opposition in the final was Wycombe HC who the lads had played in the final of the EH Regional competition a few weeks earlier. The result mirrored that win although was more emphatic being 6-0 to Old Loughts. This capped the season with the boys winning all their games in all competitions without a draw or loss in sight. An extraordinarily good season for an extraordinarily good squad!
The U18s, who were also at Reading, were drawn against Teddington in their semi final of the Mercian Play offs. Teddington proved to be an extremely tough nut to crack and when a penalty flick was missed by OL in the normal course of play it was felt that the writing could potentially be on the wall. However, yet another game went to penalty flicks and as they have experienced in the past this was not going to stop the boys progressing. With a save from Perry Foster and a miss by Teddington the gates were opened and Luke Camilleri slotted away the last penalty flick to secure the place in the final. The Final was against the home side, Reading, a repeat of the EH quarter final of a couple of months ago. A similar result occurred although this time more emphatically and with two goals from Liam Peoples, one from Matt Lewis and one from Luke Camilleri the 4-2 scoreline showed a well deserved win for the lads. Throughout the whole season, both indoors and out, the lads have only lost two games which has made this the most successful season that an U18 squad has recorded. With the season now at an end we say goodbye to Mitchell Jones (who captained the side throughout), Luke Camilleri, Will Smith, Harry Kempe, Michael Tomkins, Adam Miller and Steve Edwards and we wish them every success for the future.
