18.05.10 - U12 NATIONAL FINALS
Old Loughtonians minis in recent year have managed to qualify for four EH National Finals. On three occasions they have finished runners up by the odd goal or flicks. We have won one title. This year for the first time we were represented in both the girls and boys competitions
U12 BOYS – NATIONAL FINALS:
The team got off to a slow start despite playing really well in every game keeping shape, discipline and giving away a year in age which is considerable at this level. The boys only narrowly lost the group games by a single goal and to the eventual winners Canterbury by two goals having caused them many problems just not having the rub with their finishing. In the afternoon the boys stepped up a gear to achieve two wins and a draw in their final three games to move up the table to a credible seventh place. The boys have learnt that in hockey it does not always go your way and this will be a important lesson to take forward in the future. That said it was valuable to have some tough competition not always possible at home. With a very good U10 team coming through the ranks, it all bodes well for next year’s competition. This season the boys have been Winners OL Festival, Essex Champions, East Runners Up, National Finalists and unbeaten Alliance League Champions. Squad: James Thompson, Edward Padfield, Will Hopkins, Tirion Prole, Shivesh Moorthy, Ciaran Caplan, Edgar Padfield, Anthony Juffs, Dafydd Prole, Milo Linney, Gurvir Jutla, Joe Hobday.
U12 GIRLS ARE NATIONAL RUNNERS UP:
After winning the Essex and East championships the U12 girls traveled to Nottingham on Sunday to compete in the National Championships. After winning their group round they qualified to the final rounds with two final matches in the final stage. The results of this final stage left the girls level on points and goal difference with York, but due to earlier round results left them requiring a 2-2 draw or win to secure the competition or a 1-1 score draw to create a penalty stroke finale. This final match against Canterbury saw the girls dominate the game throughout with many close efforts and good saves preventing the final goal. As the game went on the girls seem to dominate further, however with only a 12 minute game duration and with luck against them it proved too little time to secure the victory and the result ended in a 0-0 draw. To remain undefeated and to concede only two goals against the entire day against national finalist opposition, the girls performed superbly and despite their misfortune still became the silver medal winners in the national championships. Squad list: Alisha Evans, Chloe Joarder, Ella Day, Emma Albery, Hannah Leiper, Lucy Price, Megan Brooks, Megan Wells and Monika Johal.
