Club Sections

  • Mens Hockey

We currently run 8 Men's teams including an Academy side and a Supervets side (see Masters section). Training is on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Our thriving Youth section helps to feed all of our Men’s teams and these are described in further detail in the Youth section.

Our first team plays in the East National Conference again this year.

The second and third team play in the Higgins London league. The Supervets play in the Higgins London League on Saturdays and in the National Trophy competition on Sundays.

The Loppers and the Academy and the 2 Willows sides play in the East League.

Find out more about each of our teams For more information please contact Men's Club Captain Elliott Smith.

  • Ladies Hockey

At Old Loughtonians we are running 4 Ladies teams during the 2018/19 season. Our 1st team plays in Division 1 (South) in the East Hockey League.

Our other teams play in the Essex League Divisions 1, 2 and 4.

Most seasons we also have Ladies teams playing in Essex and National indoor leagues.

We also have a thriving Youth section in all age groups (see below) which helps to feed all of our Ladies teams.

If you are still wanting more after this we also offer a summer league experience so you can play hockey all year long! Training is on Wednesday nights as well as Monday nights by invitation. If you want to give training a go or find out more information please contact Rachel Paddon, our Ladies Club Captain, on ladiesclubcaptain@oldloughtonians.co.uk.

Find out more about each of our teams in the Meet the Teams section.

  • Junior Hockey

The club is known for its strong Youth section..  We have teams for both boys and girls at  U18, U16, U14  (Colts) , U12 and U10 (Mini)  level as well as a mixed  U8s team.   The teams compete in local leagues (for example the Mercian League) and in the England Hockey National competitions,  Old Loughts boys and girls sides have been successful as  National Champions on a number of occasions recently both in the indoor and outdoor competitions.

Colts regularly play for Essex at all age groups and a pleasing number of our colts compete in the Futures Cup each year and represent  England at age group level.  Colts are also eligible to play for the Men's and Ladies teams and our Academy side provides a transition to the top teams.

Two current Olympians came through our Youth section.

The Mini section is particularly vibrant and we welcome players of all abilities who want to learn and to play.

  • Mixed Hockey

Old Loughtonians mixed eleven is a purely social side that attends the occasional festival.

  • Veterans Hockey

The Club has an active and successful Masters Section.

The Supervets side plays on Saturdays in the Higgins Group London League.

The Club also enters teams in the National senior age group Trophy and our over 50s team are the current National Shield champions.

The Club is expanding its Masters section and welcomes players from local clubs who would like to play seniors hockey on Sunday (whilst still playing their Saturday hockey elsewhere) and any players who have reached that age where they would prefer to play with like minded and aged  players.  For further details please contact Philip Wheater.

We have a highly successful "Back to Hockey" initiative as well run by John Wright and Simon Beckley  for anyone wishing to start again (or for the first time) and who might then like to graduate to league hockey.

  • Mini Hockey

Our ethos is to encourage as many children to enjoy hockey and team sport as possible, engendering an interest that will last a life time. Whatever the ability of the child there is a place for them at Old Loughts. As coaches and managers, our desire is to encourage and support them as they develop not only their hockey skills but also social skills.

Our Mini section (School Year 1-7) is run by volunteers, many of whom are parents of children currently attending or have had children at the club previously. All have busy home and work lives but still find time to commit regularly to training, matches and all else that goes hand in hand with this.

    Mini Coaches / Managers

On a regular Saturday there will be between 12 – 15 Adult coaches/helpers and 6-8 U14/U16 Junior helpers. They give regular commitment which helps all children access enjoyable sessions.

As an England Hockey affiliated club we have an England Hockey Sessional Coach (old Level 2) on site during training sessions. We are fortunate that both Jay Fox and John Wright both fulfil this obligation. They, along with Chris Gladman (Director of Coaching at Old Loughts) coordinate the sessions on each of the pitches and provide guidance on which aspects each age group needs to focus on.

    Mini teams

    We run 2 Mixed U8's, 2 Girls and 2 Boys U10’s and 2 Girls and 3 Boys U12 teams.

All Mini’s within these age groups will have a chance to play in matches. We run A teams which are selected on ability by the coaches and B teams where all are welcome and everyone will have the opportunity to play. Whether you have just picked up a stick for the first time or are aspiring to make the national finals you are more than welcome.

  • Summer Hockey

We run our own Old Loughts summer leagues and also enter teams in other local summer leagues.

We have one team aimed at players from the higher teams and one for those playing in the lower leagues.

Current, former and prospective players are welcome to play.

  • Alumni Hockey

Old Loughts has strong connections with its former players.

We aim to keep in touch with players temporarily playing elsewhere or taking a break from hockey.  We run alumni hockey days where current members play former teammates.

We particularly welcome back our colts who have gone on to further education but who are welcome to play for the club in the summer and of course on their return home.

  • Indoor Hockey

The club has a very strong history in indoor hockey.  The honours board lists the domestic and international competitions won both by our senior men's and ladies teams and our very successful boy's and girl's indoor teams.

Our video page also shows some of the footage of our recent successful teams.  Our u18 boys won the inaugrual National Indoor competition in 2010 and our u16 boys won in 2013 and our u16 girls in 2014.

  • Introductory Hockey

We invite prospective Mini members to join the Club for a provisional introductory period before they become a full Mini member and pay the annual membership fee.

All prospective members are asked to complete the Club's membership form and adhere to the Club's  safety and other policies but will be entitled to attend three training sessions over a one month period before deciding whether or not to commit to playing and paying for full Mini membership.
