Fun in the Forest 2018

25th to 27th May

This year's mixed 7 a-side format seemed to go down well, with quite a number of newcomers joining the fray.

We ended up with 24 teams (around 240 people including non-players) which split handily into 4 groups of 6.

Some good hockey, and certainly some 'fun' hockey, took place in the hot and steamy weather. Newcomers 'Funder', from Braintree, were tournament winners, in a close fought final with old hands 'Untouchables' from East London.

There was more steamy fun in the clubhouse after the games, especially for those in all-enveloping fancy dress. The Norwich Dragons regained their dressing-up crown of 2 years ago with their clever packman theme.

Fun in the Forest 2017

Again we were lucky, and the sun shone for almost the whole weekend.

Games were good tempered, at times highly competitive, at times highly amusing. The 'ladies' of 'Le Coq en Tit' adopted a relaxed and free-flowing attitude to both their style of play and their under garments. The team bonded well, often too well for comfort, consistent in their quest to secure last place in the competition. Never mind promotion to National League, this was obviously the high point of their season.

Tournament winners were '10 More Minutes' in a tight final against 'Dribblers 1'. Containing a high proportion of youngsters, both teams' play suffered less from the after effects of alcohol than did that of some of the more mature teams. As the final drew to a close, a few welcome rain drops began to fall. The timing could not have been better.

The fancy dress prize went to 'The Untouchables', with a splendid home-made effort as (really) old people.

Runners up were '50/50' as cavemen, and third placed were 'Small Gene Pool' as beer bottles. Great efforts all round.

Photos of the event will be appearing soon in the photo gallery.

A successful Fun in the Forest Festival 2016 enjoyed by all at the weekend

The weather gods were kind to us, as 14 mixed teams enjoyed the hockey, food, drink and festivities at Old Loughts over the weekend. In the end, the visiting Dutch men’s team, combined with the Norwich Dragon ladies triumphed on the pitch, defeating City Slickers in a close run final.

The dragon ladies were also popular winners in the Saturday night fancy dress competition, with their amazing homemade (with the help of some IKEA laundry baskets) Very Hungry Caterpillar outfits.

Welcome to the Old Loughtonians Fun in the Forest Mixed Hockey Festival. Our festival has been running for 11 years and is played on 2 olympic waterbased pitches in the North East of London with close acess to the M25. We welcome mixed sides and there is no limit to squad size, with 11 aside for the matches. Camping is provided within sight of the pitches, the clubhouse is fully stocked to supply jugs of 'Purple Nasty', and we provide food all weekend as part of the entry fee that includes a cooked breakfast, Lunch and Evening cooked meals including Hog Roast.
